Time Is Running Out to Save Your LinkedIn Data

linkedin Note and Tags are disappearingDo you use the helpful Notes, Tags and Reminders tools on LinkedIn? If so, you’ve only got a couple weeks left to download and save this content before it disappears forever. The feature that lets you add Reminders associated with contacts is no longer available, but the Notes and Tags you’ve saved previously are still there for you to download and save until May 31st.

As part of a pretty major revamping of the professional networking site in the first half of 2017, LinkedIn is choosing to eliminate the Notes, Tags and Reminders features that many people relied on. It’s not the end of the world, but it is inconvenient for those who depended on the disappearing features and added a significant amount of data to the site using Notes and Tags. Luckily, you have a chance to keep this information by downloading it to the location of your choice, where you can refer to it as necessary.

If you can’t live without Notes and Tags, you can check out the Sales Navigator and Recruiter Lite options. These two specialized LinkedIn features provide similar functionality to those who really need them. They will let you import the notes and tags you already have so you can continue to use them, just not quite the same way you had been. Import to Recruiter with these instructions or follow these steps to import notes and tags to Sales Navigator.

For most of us, though, the best option is simply to download our Notes and/or Tags so we can continue to access them via desktop, mobile or the cloud. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the data export page (look in Settings & Privacy to find it).
  2. Open Basics and click on the Change button next to the option that says “Getting an archive of your data.”
  3. Click on Request Archive to get an email with a link that lets you download archived data, including tags and notes.
  4. Once you’ve downloaded the files, you’ll find your notes and tags inside the Contacts file.

Don’t forget: the deadline to download is May 31st, and it’s coming up soon. Either download or import your notes and tags to the appropriate alternate LinkedIn product if you don’t want to lose it.

I think a lot of professionals feel the same way, Cindy. It’s a little surprising that LinkedIn is doing away with the feature. Perhaps with enough feedback they’ll reconsider.
