The Best Job Description Ever
By Bonnie Buol Ruszczyk

When was the last time you laughed so hard tears came to your eyes? I have to say for me it’s been twice in the last week. First, for some reason this made me laugh uncontrollably. It seems there’s something about goats replacing Taylor Swift that amuses me to no end.
But the second one is so very much better! As most of you know, at bbr marketing, we have a virtual office. While we try to get together as often as we can, most days we are each working from our own homes or other chosen environments. This gives us flexibility and allows us to remain competitive since rent isn’t an issue.
So, when Shane, our copywriter and editor Sarah‘s son, had to come up with his perfect job for career day in his 2nd grade class, he chose to follow in the footsteps of his mom. For this assignment, he had to write a description of his job to present to the class. But what puts the icing on this oh-so-tasty cake is that he had to dress as he would expect to for that job. So without further ado, I present to you Shane Warlick’s class presentation.
My Job for Career Day
My job for career day is a writer and editor because my mom is one. I want to do this job because I think it is interesting and she can help me learn to do it.
I will write articles about lots of things and web pages that tell people how good the companies are that are my clients. Editing is checking if things are nice and good and changing them to make them be written better. I will do that for articles and books and companies’ websites. You also write press releases sometimes, which is not very fun. Being an editor and writer is hard work and usually takes three and three quarters of an hour.
I will work from home like my Mom. That means that I can wear whatever I want except for when I have to go to meetings and stuff. I am wearing these things because these are what editors and writers usually wear when they work from home: a hoodie, pajama pants, slippers that cover your toes or boots and a freaky hat. They usually carry a cup of coffee too.
Nailed It.
I told him he has a job if he can write anywhere near as well as his mother. Can you blame me?
Yep, he nailed it! Too cute!
Wow! That’s awesome.
Three things strike me;
1. the corporate uniform – love it.
2. only working 3 and 3/4 of an hour – now that’s some life balance right there
3. he’s got the idea of always having a coffee to hand.
He’ll make a fine editor/writer. Bonnie – he’ll fit right in!
Thanks Heather and Kristin. I only wish he were completely accurate on the hours, but he does understand the idea of tracking time already. Not bad at all!
I literally had to put my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing and waking up my own kid when I got to the part about what work-from-home people wear. OMG!! I like this kid. 🙂
